Re-pointing, Brick Repair & Historical Restoration – Historic Building

Project Overview

The farm house restoration project was an extensive effort to preserve the historical integrity of this significant structure located within the Monocacy National Battlefield. Over a period of 15 weeks, our team focused on meticulous mortar cut-out and repointing, brick repairs, and final cleaning to ensure the farm house’s continued historical relevance and structural stability.

Purpose and Objectives

The primary objective of this project was to restore the farm house by addressing deteriorated mortar joints and performing necessary brick repairs. The goal was to maintain the building’s historical authenticity while ensuring its structural integrity and visual appeal.

Scope of Work

  • Comprehensive Mortar Restoration: Removed all old mortar joints and replace them with a custom lime putty mortar to match the original material, preserving the building’s historical accuracy.
  • Brick Repairs: Repaired any damaged bricks to restore the building’s structural integrity and appearance.
  • Custom Mortar Production: Conducted a thorough mortar analysis to replicate the original lime putty mortar composition and ensure that the new mortar integrates seamlessly with the existing stonework.
  • Final Finishing: Performed a vinegar wash down to achieve a consistent, clean finish that complements the restored mortar and bricks.

The restoration is a testament to our commitment to historical preservation and high-quality craftsmanship. By addressing both structural and aesthetic needs with precision over the course of a 15 week project, our team has ensured the continued significance and beauty of this historic building.
